This weekend, I got a chance to do something I have always wanted to do but have never been able to pull off.

Guys... I got to put my hair up in an intricate braided up-do.

Ok, I know I know, there are those of you out there with incredible hair who can put your hair up in gorgeous styles without even thinking about it.

But I know there are just as many of you out there like me with fine, limp, thin hair who stare at Pinterest pictures like this one or this one wishing that they could make their hair look that fancy.

A few weeks ago, I got some clip on hair extensions from Irresistible Me to fight my fine hair struggles

Irresistible me sent me TONS of hair extensions; but for my braided up do, I only needed to use the largest size (4 clips) and two of the second largest (3 clips) to add enough volume to my hair while not weighing it down too much when it was braided together.

Clipping them in still looks ridiculous though. There's no getting around it.

I placed the clips every 1" or so from the nape of my neck to about the middle of my head.

Pulling my hair from the temples, I styled half up half down using mostly just my REAL hair, which I lifted with a little spritz of volumizer but no clip-ins.

The actual up do was simple!

With the extra volume I made 3 long braids. Two from the sides, starting right behind my ears and directing them to the opposite shoulder; and one straight from the middle (including the half-up pony tail portion).

After that I simply knotted the middle braid (it's very long so you can do that!) then wrapped the side braids around and secured with bobby pins.

It held all night, and Friday night was a tough one since I had to drive to an event for an hour, drive home in traffic, hop on the train downtown for dinner and drinks (and drinks and drinks) with the girls, and then arrived home at 1am.

Here's how my hair was holding up after nearly 7 hours!

The extra length and volume I get out of these extensions just makes me so happy. Whether I'm using only some or all of them I can do things with my hair that just weren't possible before.

I'm going to need to get back onto Pinterest...

What's one hair style you wish you could pull off with your hair?
