Green Tea Frappuccino Breakfast Smoothie!


I love the Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino

I mean, LOVE it. I can't wait for hot weather so I can start ordering it as much as possible. With whipped cream because why not.




Of course, the problem about my obsession with this frapp is the health factor... A Grande (without the whip) isn't as caloric as some of their other drinks, but it's not the healthiest selection either.

Add whip... well you know the drill.

Wishing to add more nutrients to this mostly-sugary drink while also keeping my wallet under control, I went through a trial and error process to make a breakfast smoothie version of the Green Tea Frappuccino that I could make and enjoy at home!

Last year I did an intensive post on great Breakfast Smoothies to help you slim down. I've since added this one to the list as one of my favourites!

Here's the winning recipe.

Green Tea Frappuccino Breakfast Smoothie (serves 1)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 3/4 cup iced green tea
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp chia seed
  • 1 tsp flax seed

Directions:

Mix all of these together and blend! 


I mean... there aren't many steps in smoothie making... but for a true frappuccino taste though, here are some notes:

1) Freeze your fruits and veggies! 

I like to prepare my smoothies ahead of time so they're quick to do in the morning. Get your spinach, banana and blueberries and put them in a freezer bag and freeze over night. That way when you blend, you'll have a cold frothy smoothie rather than a warmish-liquid one!


2) Making your Iced Green Tea! 


One of the processes of this recipe is making an iced green tea. I usually do this in a large glass jar, boiling the water, steeping, cooling to room temperature and then putting it in the fridge.  I tried this recipe with both Matcha and regular store bought Green Tea (Tetley's!) and determined that the Tetley's was actually better for the flavour.

When you make your green tea, use 2-bags/cups worth of water. You want that tea to be STRONG. I used about 4-5 cups of water and 8-10 tea bags, then stuck it in the fridge to use in my smoothies all week!
