Get Outside and Play!

This past weekend, I did something that I've decided needs to be a priority of mine this month:

I went outside and played!

Living in Canada, we really only get a few great weeks (yes. weeks.) of true summer weather. The kind of weather where you wish it would just cool off a little bit because you're sweltering.

Well we often get that wish, we get a few weeks in July and then the temperature starts dropping again. So this month I've decided to get outside as much as I possibly can to enjoy it.

Getting outside to play (exercise, walk with friends, attend a BBQ, etc.) is such a freeing experience. We spend so much time cooped up in offices or our houses or malls and not enough time out and enjoying our beautiful communities.

Taking the time to play outdoors helps reduce stress, improves your physical state and generally improves your outlook. All you need to do is wear sunscreen and you're off to the races!

I'm lucky enough to have lived my whole life on the shores of Lake Ontario, where lakefront restaurants can set the scene for a beautiful evening.

Or, you can do what I did the other morning and grab a coffee and sit on a park bench like this one to read and relax.

I have to say it was a magical Sunday.

My community also has a very active boating community, so gorgeous sail boats, dock parties and fishing rentals are so very common.

Of course, you don't need to live on a lake to enjoy going outside to play. This past week I spent a memorable evening with one of my friends and her daughter. No one can teach you the value of play like a 9 month old at the park.

Hike trails, go swimming, go to the park. Whatever you're doing this week, take some time out of your schedule to go outside and play! Even if it takes the form of downloading Pokemon Go and walking around with a friend trying to catch them all (do it!).

Appreciate the great outdoors now during the most beautiful month of the year. We'll all miss it so much when summer has gone.

What are you doing this month to get outside and play?
