It's hot and sunny out today, and I'm so excited because tonight Kris and I are planning to hit a local patio for dinner and drinks.
Eating! Outside! Sunshine!
Before we get to that though, lets Wine Down this week!
I'm home from the British Virgin Islands... guys it was AMAZING.
In just 10 days of vacation and 7 days at sea, I think I packed more into this trip than I have ever accomplished in a single vacation.
Snorkeling every day, hikes, morning yoga, rope swinging off the mast, dancing the night away, fabulous food, cocktails, exploring tropical islands, pirate LARPing, reading good books, taking a million photos, paddle boarding, wake boarding, sailing... We fit a TON in to this trip!
Stay tuned to the blog over the next few weeks for a full recount of the adventures.
Back to School... er.... Work.
The downside of being back from vacation was heading back to work this week... Luckily I managed my time like a BOSS before I left so I didn't come back to piles and piles of work.
Unluckily, after living on a sailboat for a week and enjoying boundless adventures, sitting at my desk all day, every day, was a bit constraining. My vacation brain has finally cleared though so I can get back to the nitty gritty of work.
I'm also getting back into chores, blogging, the gym, seeing friends... life is BUSY! At least I have a tan now.
I've just started reading Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance. It is HILARIOUS!
Kris and I often talk about how we met in a pretty traditional way (through friends/family, when we were younger and then reconnecting, lived in the same neighbourhood, went to high school together, etc.) and occasionally feel left out that we didn't ever get to try out the whole "Tinder" scene.
On the other hand, many of my friends/family have met their significant other (fiancé, spouse) online. 1/3 couples meet this way now, which is absolutely nuts but really does make good sense.
Aziz Ansari's book talks about how romance and dating has changed with the rise of online and cellphone dating. How the type of love has changed over the past 80 years. How our attitude towards meeting people, interacting and dating has changed.
It's also full of humour, because he is nothing if hilarious. I'm about half way through and really love it because it's so reflective of millennial culture in so many ways pertaining to dating or not.
If you're looking for a funny, quick and informative read I'd recommend picking it up!
Wine Club and What I'm Drinking!
My lovely friend Steph and I have started our Wine Club back up again!
Steph and I were English Majors together, so we've read a lot of the same books (and some pretty famous ones at that) so a few years ago we decided to skip the book part and just get together and drink wine.
We figure if we need to talk books, we can always pull out our university notes.
Wine Club was on hiatus for a little while because of Steph being "pregnant" and "nursing" (pfffft!) but we're back in form now that Baby Girl is getting bigger. Plus I have to admit she's raised the cuteness quotient for club members.
Anyway, Steph had the genius idea of picking wines by name alphabetically! She took the first week with "A" so it was up to me to find a "B" wine.
I picked a good one, purely because I liked the name and label but it totally paid off!
This delicious Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep red colour and a deep flavour to match. Plenty of tannin and a kind of fruity undertone make it delicious for drinking.
I imagine it would pair really well with a rich chicken and goat cheese concoction, maybe with a beet salad on the side... mmm...
What are your plans for the weekend?
What wines are you drinking these days?
What is the best book you've read lately (or worst!)?
