Happy Friday Everyone!!!
It is finally, FINALLY starting to cool off a bit, and I am seriously thrilled about this. I like my Septembers a crisp 15 degrees thank you VERY much!
It has been a long week of work and studying and I'm beyond ready to go charging off into the weekend! So let's do the Wine Down and wind down this week!
Take me out to the ball game
To kick off the Labour Day Weekend, Kris had a surprise date planned for me.
This was infuriating because I like to be well organized and know whats going on. I am terrible with knowing that I can't know. I am a total snoop at Christmas too. Now you know...
Anyway, after a week of torture, the mister presented me with some Blue Jays tickets!!! If you don't know, the Jays are currently kicking butt in the run up to the playoffs, so Toronto is on FIRE with excitement!
We went to the game and had a blast (even though they lost, sigh) and then went out for a beer and nachos afterward to enjoy the last of the summer patios.
Take a look at my handsome date, he's so good to me. The surprise was totally worth it!
A bittersweet goodbye to summer this labour day in cottage country! Even if it was one of the hottest Labour Days I can remember (I went for a solid swim along the lakefront to keep cool).
The whole family was up at "Rock, Bought'em" to enjoy these last summer days. We'll continue cottaging until mid October, but it's never quite the same. Lots of great food, fishing, movies, card games, water fun and sangria on the dock.
We made memories this summer that will get us through the harsh winter ahead, so what more could I possibly ask for?
Let's not be sad because...
#PSL and fall favourites
THE PUMPKIN SPICED LATTE IS BACK! I, for one, love the new recipe! I went at lunch on Tuesday to get my delicious treat and do some studying (a nice break from work, geeze) and my barista actually squealed with delight to be making her first PSL of the season.
I'm also excited about a gorgeous pair of new fall booties, a red plaid scarf, and that the tree outside my window is turning red already!
I'm planning a "cozy fall favourites" post in the next few weeks! If you're feeling inspired, take a photo of your fall favourite on instagram and tag me @cookwineandthinker OR let me know in the comments below what your fall favourites are :)
Two women and an (almost) baby
My lovely friend Steph and I made a point of going out for dinner this week to one of our favourite restaurants in our neighbourhood, Papa Giuseppe's!
Steph is due IN A WEEK, and we don't know when the next time we'll be able to just go for dinner will be. I don't even know if I'll see her again before she gives birth! It's kind of a crazy thought, but this beautiful lady is so excited to be a mom and I can't wait to meet her baby girl!
What I'm Drinking
Tonight, we're off to try a brand new bar around the corner which specializes in whiskeys, bourbons and ryes... I'm PUMPED.
I was thinking a Manhattan or Mint Julep... they even do flight tastings of bourbon.... but then I saw their classic cocktails and did a 180...
Ladies and gentlemen... the French 75 is the winner this week!
Tanqueray 10 gin, fresh lemon juice, simply syrup, Prosecco, orange half wheel. I had this drink for the first time at a wedding last year and I have been in love with it ever since! Sweet, citrus, bubbly with that tanqueray tang. This drink is PERFECTION for a late summer night. I might even have two (or five)
