Winter Blacks with Vibrant Blues! Outfit of the Day!

An OOTD post today about my new "go to" outfit for running around on miserable January weekends.

I remember when I was a kid and my dad started travelling to London, New York and Antigua on business. "Canadian people aren't stylish" he said, "compared to the rest of the world".

Personally, I think that's an unfair statement. But when you're dealing with gross, grey and cold (with a capital C) weather for 5 months of the year, it's hard to be as stylish as you want while bundling up. Plus 70% of the things in stores right now are black or grey... not a lot of room for colour.

So when I've got a busy weekend ahead, I pull out my favourite winter outfit, throw my hair up into a sock bun, and accessorize colourfully! And darn'it, I feel stylish.

Start with a classic look, boots, faux-leather (or plain) tights and a slouchy sweater.

Next add scarf, jewelry, and your most vibrant bag.

Now grab your gorgeous coat. The one that fits you like a glove and keeps you warm for walks by the lake, or through city streets.

I love this look. It's quick to pull together, cozy, and I can go from brunch to party without feeling like I need to be hauling back to the apartment to get ready all over again.

The Jacket is by Soia and Kyo. I've had it for a number of years but I find it still fits and feels like new, plus it's ridiculously warm and has the most BEAUTIFUL lining.

The slouchy, off-the-shoulder sweater is by FCUK, and the tights are my new Daria Leggings from Aritzia.

The boots are definitely winter staple of mine. They're made by Les Canadiennes, a Montreal based designer, so they understand winter. These boots are fully waterproof and winter soled. I can trek through 2 ft. of snow in them and still feel warm, cozy and dry. They're a great staple for a snow bound girl who doesn't always want to show up wearing Sorrels to the bar or office.

Then of course there's the accessories! As always, I'm wearing a lot of Kate Spade (bangle, scarf, purse) as well as my new Links of London bracelet which I basically never take off.

The bag though is what makes all of these winter blacks ok. It's just such a gorgeous shock of colour. I get compliments on this bag everywhere I go: Grocery store clerks, strangers on the street, my manicurist, friends of friends. People LOVE the colour.

Plus it looks so great against the winter colours to remind you of warmer days.
